A door to the side opens onto a large sun terrace - easily large enough to enjoy a cocktail whilst the sun sets across the township of Ansiao in the distance. You'll get a birds eye view across the grounds of Quinta Das Eiras and much further still, and with all day sunshine it's one of the many ideal spots to relax, recline and soak up the atmosphere.
Across the corridor you'll find the 1st floor master bedroom with king size bed and it's own en-suite shower room. Both our barbecue area and outside seating are situated in such a way so that you'll always have full peripheral vision of the area.
The outdoors seating / dining area accessible from the pool or via the retractable glass windows in the dining room? It's ideal for al fresco dining or just soaking up the Portuguese sun with a good read. The entire area can be curtained off to provide shade or left open to allow you to bathe in sunlight. Automated outdoor lighting will ensure this is a space to be enjoyed at any time of the day or night. The Sonos sound system will allow you to instantly connect the tablet so you can have your choice of music softly playing in the background too. It's ideal location means you can keep a constant eye on the pool area, as well as enjoying the fantastic views down the grounds, meandering past the Spa Room and beyond - as far as the eye can see. There's a full size outdoor Rattan dining table and chairs to enjoy the produce of the area amongst the very fields it came from. Surely the epitomy of outdoor living as it should be in such a diverse and beautiful landscape.
A little further down our garden, set on the first of our two threshing circles, is a secondary seating area covered with sun parasol and further garden furniture for you to sit and and watch the sky turn red as the sun sets further down in the valley. Afterwards why not stock up the chimenea with logs You're journey back to the villa will be lit by electronic lighting that's automatically operated for convenience.
We've mentioned the grounds previously but they are well worth an exploratory tour - each stroll is guaranteed to uncover something new and fascinating, be it plant life or the curious little partridge that you'll sometimes catch running up and down the paths - it doesn't seem to like going onto the grass but you are more than welcome to do so and explore at will! The scenery changes by the hour and we'd recommend you cast off with a chair, a glass of wine and a good book. We have tried to allow the majority of the grounds to naturally seed which means an abundance of beautiful, colorful flora and forna - we think you'll be spellbound by it. There are numerous areas of natural charm to discover, why not try them all and find your own personal favourite spot?
At the bottom of the garden you'll find the private badminton courts - offering the most impressive view's you'll ever play on!
Local Area
The village of Outeiro can only leave you spellbound by nature's beauty - take a journey of discovery on one of the many trails that run around the village, or why not make a picnic and take in the beauty of the sprawling vista from the historic wooden windmills - very much the landmark of the local area.
Venture into nearby Santiago da Guarda, visit it's wonderful picturesque church and spend an hour exploring it's Roman settlement with room after room of mind blowing original mosaic's. Whilst there you may meet it's curator, Claudia. She is a very good friend of ours and would be delighted to hear that you are staying at the villa - so pull up a chair and say hello! From here you might want to sample the menu @ Santiago, the village's restaurant. Boasting a modern and contemporary design, you may be surprised with the quality, taste and portions of authentic, traditional Portuguese cuisine - with service and prices to delight!
A short drive into the town of Ansiao offers you a morning to peruse the local shops offering local produce and handmade crafts, along with the Intermarche to conveniently stock up on any essentials for your stay in Portugal. In addition to this the town has an abundance of patisseries , restaurants and cafes, so you can soak up the laid back pace of life whilst interacting with it's welcoming locals. It also boasts a wonderful park along with covered indoor swimming pool.
A leisurely car journey through the never ending beauty of this under-discovered area can take you to the following additional tourist attractions:
Coimbra - One of Europe's oldest university towns, it has kept its secular academic traditions, as seen in the black caped students, in the soulful tones of the fado and in the Burning of the Ribbons (Queima das Fitas). Overlooking the city is the University, with its famous tower and a sumptuous Baroque library. In the adjacent quarters you will find the Old Cathedral (Romanesque) and the Machado de Castro Museum, with its Roman cryptoportico. In the ancient streets, with their medieval walls, arches and stairways, are the Santa Cruz Monastery (founded in 1131), the Church of Santiago and the Monastery of Celas (13th century). On the other bank of the Mondego stands the Santa Clara-a-Nova Convent (Baroque, 17th century).
Figueira da Foz - Summer resort on the mouth of the Mondego river (long, sandy beaches and water sports facilities). Special mention to the mother-church, Casa do Paço (17th century), Municipal Museum, Santa Catarina Fortress (16th century) and Pelourinho.
Leiria - A striking royal castle hangs above the graceful town of Leiria. Other important monuments: the Cathedral (16th-17th centuries, with an archaeology museum on its premises), São Pedro Church (Romanesque), Nossa Senhora da Pena Church (Gothic), Nossa Senhora da Encarnação Sanctuary (16th century).
Nazaré - A stunning beach, typical fishermen houses and steep cliffs over a bright blue sea have made this fishing town become a popular holiday resort, mainly due to its traditional character. Fishermen can still be seen wearing checkered shirts and black trousers, and their wives seven layers of petticoats: you can watch them mending nets or drying fish on the beach.
Obidos - Resembling an open-air museum, this walled medieval town has been preserved to look like a picture-postcard, with its monuments, narrow winding streets and whitewashed houses with windows and terraces full of flowers.
Pombal - founded in the 12th century by the Knights Templar and is dominated by a stately castle which belonged to the Master of the Templars, Gualdim Pais. According to legend, the name of Pombal (dovecote) was given to the town when the king saw many pigeons on the castle´s battlements.
Getting to the villa is possible by flying into either Porto or Lisbon airport which are both around and hour and three quarters drive. (If you dont mind driving further, you can also use Faro although this can take upto four hours).
